JSTOR - critical essays on 'Hamlet'

Hello year 12s,

It can be hard to find relevant critical material amongst the thousands of articles on JSTOR. This link allows you find articles that quote specific lines from the play.
E.g. type "get thee to a nunnery" to find all of the articles that discuss this quotation.

We hope you find it useful!

Hamlet Revision

Hello year 12s,

Here is the link to the revision posters you made today:

Also, as promised, here is the link to a copy of the essays from the critical anthology I have annotated. Make sure you work your way through them before your mock and link them to themes or characters. You are expected to use these essays to support your own ideas on the text.

Good luck for Tuesday - you know where to find me for any last minute support. Don't forget to bring me your consent forms for the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern trip by the end of next week (Friday 24th) and pay via ParentPay.

The recommended books for your coursework are now available in the library - ask Ms Bradshaw to direct you to them.

Also, the documentary we were discussing on veganism is called 'Forks Over Knives' - available on Netflix. You might be able to see bits of it on YouTube.

The Great Gatsby - Reading Group 1

Hello year 12s,

I am sure you will agree, Ms Lindsay's talk on American history and the creation of the American Dream was a both fascinating and valuable way to kick start our discussion of The Great Gatsby. You can find the link to her PowerPoint presentation here:

I was really interested to hear your initial views on the characters and how you felt about their behaviour. Here is what we spoke about:
  • Our strong dislike for Tom, especially for his treatment of Daisy and his violence towards Myrtle.
  • Our frustration at Daisy's acceptance of Tom's affair and apparent disregard for her child.
  • Our initial impressions of Nick and his growing interest in Jordan Baker. We also touched briefly on his sexuality.
  • Our distrust of Jordan Baker and confusion over her place in the novel. We found it strange that she should be spending so much time with Tom and Daisy.
Our next meeting will be on Monday 13th March at 3.15pm in room L108. You will need to have read up to page 140. Ms Lindsay will begin with some relevant context for 'Streetcar' before we discuss the middle part of The Great Gatsby.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Ryall
